If you (or your parent or grandparent on which you are relying) do not have your birth certificate or Indian Passport to show proof of past Indian Citizenship / Indian origin, the decision of whether to accept an alternative type of document as proof of your Indian citizenship will be made by the Consular Officer and will be final in such cases.
Alternatives include (but are subject to Consular Officer’s acceptance):
-
1) A notarized copy of educational certificate issued by an institution in India
-
- For example, a high school diploma
-
2) Land ownership certificate by which eligibility may be reasonably ascertained
3) A copy of an Ancestral Nativity Certificate issued by an Indian official or other authority not below a District Collector/ District Magistrate within a State Government in India that has sufficient authority to confirm Indian origin of the applicant who has or whose relations (such as parents/grandparents etc.) have lived in that particular state.
